- Global Standards 1 (GS1): Allowing 2 fingers of space between products on the shelf. GS1 is a not-for-profit, international organization developing and maintaining its own standards for barcodes and the corresponding issue company prefixes. The best known of these standards is the barcode, a symbol printed on products that can be scanned electronically.
- Global Trade Item Number (GTIN): Globally unique identification code for products, aiding standardization and efficient supply chain operations.
- Gondola: The shelving for products in the store. Gondolas typically consist of a flat base and a vertical component featuring notches, pegboards, or slatwalls.
- Gross Margin (GM): Profitability metric calculated by subtracting COGS from total revenue. Guides pricing decisions and optimization of product mix.
- Gross Margin Return on Inventory Investment (GMROII): Variation of GMROI considering the entire inventory investment period. Optimizes inventory levels and improves profitability.
- Gross Margin Return on Investment (GMROI): Measures how effectively inventory generates gross margin, aiding decisions on product assortment, pricing, and replenishment.
- Height: The physical space (usually expressed in mm) measured from the base to the top of a product or tray.
- Hierarchy: The priority of various objects within a planogram: Position – Product – Fixture – Planogram – Project.
- High-low: A pricing strategy involving selling products at a higher price most of the time and lowering the price periodically for sales promotion.
- Horizontal Blocking: The grouping of products horizontally along a shelf, e.g. all the products of a certain brand.
- Horizontal Facings: The number of horizontal facings of a product on a shelf.

- Hot Spot: A position on a shelf or display that generates increased interest, or sales of a product.

- In Store Fulfillment (ISF): The process of fulfilling customer orders directly from a physical retail store.
- Incremental Sales: The additional sales of a product that have happened directly as a result of promotional or marketing activity. Sales over and above Base Sales.
- Information Resources Inc./National Purchase Diary (IRI/NPD): Providers of market research and data analytics. Merged in 2022, now known as Circana, offering valuable resources for category management professionals.
- Initialization (INI): The process of setting the initial values or configurations of a system or program.

- Inventory Value: The monetary value of stock available.
- Jumble Factor: A formula-driven measure of oddly shaped item’s capacity.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPI): Quantifiable measures used to evaluate the performance of a business, department, or individual.
- Layout: File used to create the POG PDF.
- Lead Time: The time to get a product from the warehouse to the store.
