The 'Field Name Override' Feature
The Field Name Override feature allows you to change the default field names for some or all of the fields in Space Planning. This can be handy when your responsibilities cover multiple contexts where fields are giving custom names (e.g. Planogram Generator tag fields having different meanings depending on the category, or Description fields having customized names in different categories or at different retailers). Changing field names manually in Space Planning can be a difficult process, but this feature makes it easy.
The first step is to choose which fields you want to change the names of. By default, every Space Planning field will be listed in the table, but the list can be filtered to find a specific field. Selecting a different option in Filter Field Types will filter the list down to specific Object types or commonly used groups of fields such as Description or Value fields. You can also type text in Search for a Field and the table will automatically filter down to show only field names that contain the typed text.
The second step is to enter the new overriding names you wish to use. The table shows the object type, default field name and what the field’s current overriding name is (if any.) To reset a field name to default, check the box for Reset to Default? To provide a new overriding name for Space Planning to use for the field, type in the new name under New Overriding Name.
For Planogram Generator users, Cantactix has preset suggested override names for the Tag fields used in the software. Under Filter Field Types, select All Planogram Generator Tag Fields. A Suggested Names button will appear on the right hand side just above the grid which will fill in our suggested overriding names for all tag fields used in Planogram Generator.
When you are ready to change the field names, click Process. Note that this will only apply changes to whatever you currently are filtered to. If you want to make changes to all other fields change Filter Field Types back to None.
- Any settings you specify can be saved to a preset file by going to the Settings menu and clicking Save. To load these settings later click Settings and Open.
- If you already have customized settings in Space Planning’s internal file format (typically stored as a file named prospace.pmd) you can import them by clicking Import PMD file….
- Checking Reset to Default? takes priority over providing a New Overriding Name.
- To check/uncheck multiple boxes for Reset to Default?, highlight all of the cells in the table with the checkboxes you want to change and press the space bar to invert the checkboxes (checked will become unchecked and vice versa) or press the delete key to clear all of the checkboxes.
